The reason I asked for Master Chief Taylor’s testimony is the point his doctor makes, and I make in the book. If he had not lost weight, he would have died. “Fat will kill you long before the things you eat.” I didn’t tell Master Chief how to lose weight, he is a wrestler and my teammate.

Master Chief Taylor
In 2021 I was devastated to hear the diagnosis of Type 2 Diabetes! How could this happen? I wrestled for 14 years, achieved championships, military career as a Deep Sea Diver. After 27 years of service, in 2005, I retired out of the military at a weight of 180 pounds in pretty good shape…how did this happen? Retiring from the military sent me into a lifestyle of negative change. I ballooned up to 240 pounds and did little to no exercise. Depression became a daily struggle, then the diabetes diagnosis! My competitive and survival instincts kicked in…I knew what had to be done, I had to eat less and move!
I dove into a training program six days a week and dropped 40 pounds. My weightlifting program was taking off. I could see major gains in strength, my physique changes highly encouraging, my energy level was off the charts! I was off diabetes counseling. My counselor asked, “How did you do it?” I told her the positive changes I made, eat less, move and workout more.
A day later, after walking my dogs two miles around a nearby lake, I started feeling terrible. Massive cluster headaches, my body temperature was above 101. I was packing my neck and head in ice for three days trying to let my body recover from what? With worsening condition, I finally went to the emergency room. They at once checked me in to the hospital and a barrage of tests were ordered from biopsies, blood tests, and tissue samples. Five days later, I went home. Two days after my release, the diagnosis came back…West Nile Virus!
The first two days in the hospital, I thought I was going to die. First time in my life, I had no desire to live…I prayed to God. Then recovery started to happen. During my recovery, my Doctor and I discussed my condition. I told him about my positive lifestyle changes and my workout schedule before contracting West Nile. He responded, “If you were not in the condition, you were in, you most likely would have died.”
The moral of this story…pray, eat less, eat better, and move! Start like I did, “I am just going to ride the elliptical for one minute every morning before work.” In one month, my schedule changed to in bed no later than 9:00pm, up at 4:10am, coffee pre-workout, 45 minutes of training. Start NOW the habit of living! P.S. At 66, bought a cruiser motorcycle. I am strong and healthy enough to enjoy the ride!
